These few pages are my personal notes (mainly photographic records at present) on modifying and implementing various circuit improvements to enhance the operational performance and reliability of the Kenwood TL-922 H.F. Linear Amplifier. Most of these ideas came from researching the web on how to improve this fine linear amplifier. After working on quite a few of these amps over a period, I've settled on the modifications depicted in the following pages as some of the most desirable for me, these being Q.S.K. for SSB/CW operation, step/start A.C. mains supply and improved amplifier stability & VHF parasitic suppression. There are a number of ways to achieve these outcomes. If you have questions please send me an e-mail and I'll do my best to assist. Implementing all of the modifications will take around two full weekends but well worth the effort in the end. Hopefully my TL-922 modifications page and the other sites on the web will provide enough information to make it easier to attempt your first conversion.
There is still a good supply of these amps on the used market and occasional bargains do come up from time to time. Sometimes even a 'new' one pops up. The photos below are of a unused and unmodified Kenwood TL-922 offered on e-Bay in 2009. The final price was around US$1,700.00. Click on an image for a higher resolution photo!
